Happy 100th birthday Republic of China!
I was reading up on some of the NFL draft reports to see whose stock is rising and whose is plummeting…I came across a Running Back that ran a 4.32 and 4.35 respectively in two 40 yard dashes… and I also realized that in addition to some great speed, he also has the most bad ass name ever
HTC needs to hire him as the spokesman!
Old School (1980s ~ early 1990s) gambling machine/arcade in Taiwan
These machines use to be placed right next to grocery stores, book stores, hardware stores, etc. all over the streets of Taiwan. As a kid, I often ’invested’ my allowance into these machines.
It’s just like any arcade, you put a coin in (NT $10, which is about USD$0.40 in early 90s) to play. You pick where the flashing light is going to land. If the light lands at the place you picked, then the machine will spit out your winnings. It’s basically a slot machine. Great environment for kids to grow up.
The grandchildren of late Chinese leader Mao Zedong and his arch-rival for control of China, Chiang Kai-shek, have met for the first time.
異域 (A Home Too Far) 1990
“他們曾佔領比台灣大三倍的土地,兩次大敗緬甸國防軍,一次反攻大陸”
“They once occupied territories that were 3 times the size of Taiwan; they twice defeated the Burmese Army; they once led a counter-offensive back to Mainland China”
One of my Top 5 Taiwanese movie. Based on (inspired by) actual events surrounding R.O.C. Army 93rd Division’s battles in the Thailand, Burma, Laos border from 1949 to 1954 . Chinese synopsis here, and English synopsis here.
Looking forward to this movie: Formosa Betrayed.
NOT looking forward to James Van Der Beek
My boy Liao Yu-Chen (廖于誠), the submarine pitcher from Taiwan’s CPBL Brother Elephant team, is absolutley hardcore. His submarine delivery is so low that his thumb scraped the pitchers mound, causing it to bleed. In the states, 95% of the time they will just take the pitcher out.
In this case however, the coaching staff sealed his wound with super glue. He went on to finish the game and got the win. HARDCORE!
